Police in Troy, N.Y. announced Thursday that skeletal remains found near a pond last month belong to a woman who went missing in 2013.
She was identified through DNA testing as Amanda King, a Bethlehem resident who went missing from Glenville in October 2013 at the age of 27. She would have turned 38 this week.
King’s skeleton was found buried at the Burden Pond Preserve on Oct. 20, officials said. No cause of death has been released.
King disappeared shortly after leaving Conifer Park, an addiction treatment center in Glenville. She had been ordered by a court to receive treatment for heroin addiction. The center told her father, Arthur King, she had checked out against their recommendations and left with another person. Investigators still don’t know who she left the facility with.
Multiple unconfirmed sightings were reported in November 2013 before the trail went cold around Thanksgiving.
Troy Assistant Chief of Police Steven Barker said authorities in Troy and Albany, along with New York State Police, “are now actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Amanda’s disappearance, death and her remains being located in the area where they were discovered,” the Times-Union reported.
